Stable fourth quarter and a strong yearFOURTH QUARTER The last quarter of the year developed in accordance with our expectations. After a couple of quarters with historically high profitability, the development in the market during the fourth quarter was more cautious with lower wood product prices as a result. In spite of this, EBITDA amounted to SEK 106 million, an 36% improvement compared with last year. Bergs invests in increased manufacturing capacity for high-quality windows and doors

To meet strong demand for wooden windows and doors in conjunction with renovations and new production, the Group’s subsidiary Byko-Lat in Latvia will make investments in increasing production capacity.A new 2,400-square meter warehouse and logistics building will be constructed that will enable more efficient flows in the plant area and free up production space, which can then be used more optimally. The total investment of approximately SEK 20 million is expected to increase capacity by 50 per cent for doors and windows, with the building set to be put into use in the first quarter of 2022.

Linax is Bitus' own brand for linseed oil impregnated wood that is part of our product area Wood Protection. Bergs reports strong earnings for the fourth quarter Deliveries and order intake remained strong for the most of the Group’s products. Activity in the DIY sector and the RCE sector were high for the season. Continued low interest rates, and financial stimulus packages, contributed to positive market performance. Demand for sawn and planed wood products was unexpectedly strong in the second half of 2020, and the rate of production did not keep pace. This resulted in low inventories and price increases. Deliveries of impregnated wood and garden products were good for the season.

Second quarter 2020 – Bergs reports improved result and strong cash flowDespite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, demand for Bergs’s products has been good. The market for wood products has strengthened during the second quarter and prices for wood products have been gradually raised. The market for do-it-yourself, renovation and garden products has developed strongly, while a decline in industrial construction in Europe and the USA has been noted. Bergs focus on the garden range and the do-it-yourself segment has been favorable and sales volumes, mainly in May and June, have been strong.

Bergs to sell its Swedish sawmills

On 17 June 2020, Bergs Timber signed an agreement with Vida Aktiebolag on the sale of Bergs’s Swedish sawmill business. The transaction encompasses the sawmills in Orrefors, Vimmerby and Mörlunda, and is scheduled to be concluded on 1 September 2020. All personnel employed at each of these sawmills and in the purchasing organisation for raw materials will be offered employment at Vida, which is also acquiring the assets at the already discontinued operation at Gransjö. The effects of the corona crisis are beginning to be seen in lower demand for wood products. Bergs Timber has a large share of its sales to the UK market where demand now has fallen rapidly.
