Misfuelling prompts Good Garage Scheme to 3-in-1 insurance launch

The UK-wide Good Garage Scheme has launched a 3-in-1 insurance deal for customers of its member garages and workshops.

It has been developed in the wake of a Good Garage Scheme www.goodgaragescheme.com poll of nearly 2,000 motorists that revealed 51 per cent had put the wrong fuel in the car themselves at the pumps or knew someone who had.

The 3-in-1 insurance – which covers misfuelling, plus alloy wheel and MOT insurance cover – starts from less than £2.50 a month. Details can be found on the Good Garage Scheme website home page.

Experts at the 3,000-strong member organisation said the results of its poll were not entirely unexpected with many families having more than one car – quite possibly with a mix of petrol and diesel engines – making the simple mistake of filling up their cars with the wrong fuel more understandable. Tanks filled with the wrong fuel can be flushed, but if the engine is turned on the effects can be expensive with the cost of damage to the vehicle potentially running into the thousands.

They added that the 3-in-1 insurance deal offered via the Good Garage Scheme website www.goodgaragescheme.com and member garages and workshops would offer motorists greater peace of mind.

Anndi Sheppard, marketing manager at the Good Garage Scheme, said: “Our research has revealed the extent of the misfuelling problem in the UK. It is easily done, which is why our 3-in-1 insurance deal is aimed at helping our membership bring it to the attention of their customers and alerting them to a cost-effective solution.”

Launched by Forté five years ago, the Good Garage Scheme’s membership comprises of independent garages and workshops where customers are assured of service excellence.

Now widely accepted as a mark of quality for independent garages across the UK, Good Garage Scheme garages are recognised as providing exceptional service to their customers based on a rigorously monitored mandatory code of practice. Customers looking for their nearest Good Garage can quickly locate one using the easy-to-use search facility on the Good Garage Scheme website www.goodgaragescheme.com.
