Candlewick Press Announces Global Publication of New Picture Book Written by Kate DiCamillo and Illustrated by Jaime Kim
SOMERVILLE, MA — Candlewick Press has today announced the forthcoming publication of a new book for young readers by two-time Newbery Award winner Kate DiCamillo entitled La La La: A Story of Hope, illustrated by #1 New York Times best-selling artist Jaime Kim, to be published in September 2017. The deal for world rights was brokered with Holly McGhee at Pippin Properties by Karen Lotz, president and publisher of Candlewick Press, who will edit. The book will be designed by Candlewick’s creative director and associate publisher, Chris Paul. Jaime Kim was represented by Claire Easton at Painted Words.
A nearly wordless picture book, La La La follows a lonely young girl as she journeys from one fantastical world to another, sharing her unique song in a poignant quest for friendship and connection. Its powerful and timeless message of hope will inspire and move readers of all ages.
Working from Kate DiCamillo’s unique story concept, Jaime Kim has created rich and graphic illustrations that bring this universally appealing tale beautifully to life. This will be the first picture book release for DiCamillo in nearly ten years and for Kim, follows her debut picture book success with the runaway bestseller Take Heart, My Child.
“This tender and evocative picture book from Kate and Jaime provides a timely reminder to all of us that one of the best ways to bring about harmony in our world is simply to reach out to one another and share our stories – as Kate loves to say, ‘Stories connect us,’” said Lotz.
