European Science Academies at COP26: Curbing Motorised Transport is an Option that the EU Must Urgently Put on the Table
Digitalisation, improved batteries and new renewable fuels can be gamechangers for decarbonising transport. But technology alone will not do the job of drastically curbing the 25 percent of greenhouse gas emissions in the EU for which transport is responsible. According to a recent EASAC Report, the missing links are strong policies to encourage not only accelerated technology shifts but also paradigm changes in behaviour. “One option that policymakers must urgently put on the table is avoiding and containing the demand for motorized transport”, says Prof. George Giannopoulos, Member of EASAC’
