Norwegian Cruise Line will be deploying their even bigger cruise ship “Norwegian Getaway” on their cruises in 2017, with Copenhagen as the starting point of their trips to the Baltic and to the Norwegian fjords. Copenhagen Malmö Port dropping its focus on barge services between Malmö and Copenhagen

Copenhagen Malmö Port, CMP, is discontinuing its efforts to establish barge services as an alternative transport route between Malmö and Copenhagen. This decision is a consequence of the fact that demand has proven to be weak.The objective was to create a cost-effective transport route by water across the Öresund Strait, resulting in part in environmental gains. -  "We firmly believe in this idea, but have to state that CMP has not achieved the volumes we need in order for the investment in barge services to be financially viable," says Johan Röstin, CEO of Copenhagen Malmö Port. Improved result for Copenhagen Malmö Port

In 2014 Copenhagen Malmö Port (CMP) increased its turnover by 7%. Its operating profit also improved, reaching SEK 89.5 million. The main reason for these increases was higher volumes in the fields of RoRo, Containers and Dry Bulk.In 2014 CMP’s turnover was SEK 763 million (715), its operating profit was SEK 89.5 million(86.7) and its operating margin was 11.7% (12.1%). “It is marvellous that CMP was able to improve both its turnover and its result in 2014, especially as we increased our volumes in several of our business segments during this same period,” says Johan Röstin, CMP’s CEO.
