Malmö, September 30th2019 - Diaverum, the global renal care provider, expands into Albania through the acquisition of DiaVita Shpk. DiaVita Shpk operates five dialysis clinics across Albania and provides renal care services to over 370 patients.

Diaverum is pleased to announce its expansion into Albania, through the acquisition of DiaVita Shpk, a company operating five dialysis clinics located in cities across Albania. The acquisition is in line with Diaverum's strategy to continue to grow through M&A into new markets where Diaverum sees significant growth opportunities. Diaverum has industry-leading M&A execution capabilities and has successfully added and integrated more than 200 dialysis clinics over the last 12 years. The Albanian dialysis market serves approximately 1,300 patients, with substantial growth expected over the coming years.

Dimitris Moulavasilis, CEO of Diaverum, comments; "I am very pleased to announce our entry into the Albanian market. It reflects our strategy to expand into new markets and provide our life enhancing renal care services to dialysis patients across the globe. We look forward to implementing our mission of enhancing the lives of our patients in Albania, both through renal care and through the expansion of new services, such as preventative care and educational programs."

The acquisition includes five centres in Albania, located in Korça, Vlora, Shkodra, Lezha and Elbasan, which in total serve approximately 370 patients and employ 120 staff. The centres were granted a 10-year public concession from the Albanian Ministry of Health in November 2016.

“We are very happy with the acquisition of DiaVita Shpk and our market entry into Albania. Albania is an attractive market where we expect to see significant growth over the coming years. We look forward to working closely together with DiaVita’s talented management and employees and welcoming them into the Diaverum family”, adds Boris Zjacic, Chief Operating Officer Core Markets at Diaverum.

With existing clinics in neighbouring North Macedonia, Diaverum aims to establish a regional cluster for renal patients in the Balkan countries. Diaverum aims to use its industry-leading execution capabilities and proprietary care delivery model to improve care and medical outcomes for Albanian patients.

Diaverum plans to implement its educational program "d.ACADEMY" in the Albanian clinics, which offers training to healthcare professionals and helps educate patients and families about Chronic Kidney Disease, alongside other preventative care and educational programs. In addition, Diaverum aims to roll out its "d.HOLIDAY" programme, which enables renal care patients who wish to travel to Albania to access dialysis services.
