Diaverum, a leading global renal care service provider headquartered in Sweden, has signed an agreement to acquire Advance Renal Care Asia (ARCA), the largest independent dialysis clinic chain in Singapore.

ARCA operates 14 dialysis clinics across Singapore, and a further four in neighboring Malaysia, with around 760 patients in total and a turnover of SGD 16.9m (EUR 10.6m) in 2019. The transaction is expected to be completed during Q1 2021, when ARCA will be integrated into the Group.

The acquisition is part of Diaverum’s long term growth strategy which includes continued geographic expansion in selected, high growth potential markets. It will serve as the platform for further expansion in the South East Asian region, following the opening of Diaverum’s first clinics in Mainland China earlier this year.

Dimitris Moulavasilis, Diaverum CEO, said: “It is a great pleasure to welcome ARCA's founder and CEO C.B. Lim, his partners and clinical teams to our Diaverum family. The teams on both sides have done a fantastic job in finalising this partnership while the global COVID-19 pandemic continues. We look forward to combining ARCA's excellent team and services, and Diaverum's care standards and digital capabilities to provide our high quality, life-enhancing renal care services to more patients in Asia.”

C.B. Lim, ARCA’s founder and CEO, added: “The combination of Diaverum and ARCA makes perfect sense. We have focused on growing ARCA to a strong position in Singapore, with additional clinics in Malaysia. Being part of the Group will enable Diaverum to continue growing in the region for years to come, backed by an even stronger combined team. We also look forward to benefiting from Diaverum’s well established clinical and operational procedures and systems, for the benefit of both patients and staff”.

Måns Olsson, Diaverum’s Chief Strategy Officer and Head of Middle East & Asia, said: “Our industry-leading M&A execution capabilities has enabled us to add approximately 15 clinics every year historically. Having successfully built a very solid business in Saudi Arabia over the past few years, we will now continue our geographic expansion in both Mainland China and South East Asia.”

Diaverum provides life enhancing renal care to patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), enabling them to live fulfilling lives. Diaverum is a leading global provider in renal care services and the largest independent provider in Europe, and we help some 39,000 patients with 6 million treatments annually. Our focus is haemodialysis, but we offer a portfolio of treatments ranging from preventive care, peritoneal dialysis and home care to coordination of patients’ comorbidities and transplantation services.

CKD is a global and escalating challenge today affecting about 10% of the world’s adult population. It’s primarily caused by lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, and the prevalence is increasing in particular in developing countries. CKD disproportionately affects low income individuals and we ensure that our clinics are a safe and familiar space where all our patients are made to feel welcome.

Diaverum’s vision is to transform renal care, to offer the highest quality of care and empower patients to live a fulfilling life. We work together with payers to reduce total cost of care while partnering with local communities to educate around health and the value of prevention.

At the centre of what we do is our standardised, proprietary care delivery model, enabled by a continuously evolving digital infrastructure. We strive to ensure superior medical outcomes exceeding those demanded by national healthcare systems and we support patients by improving personalized care, ease of use and new services through technology.

Diaverum employs more than 11,000 employees and operates more than 421 clinics in 22 countries globally. Diaverum has its head office in Malmö, Sweden.
