Corporate Education Session to stress the importance of water

Munich / Riga, 5 September 2014 — Diaverum, one of the world’s leading integrated renal care providers, is hosting a Corporate Education Session at the 43nd EDTNA/ERCA International Conference 2014 in Riga, Latvia, and presenting its services within the exhibition. The session is entitled “Water is life - Putting dialysis water at the centre of patient care” and will discuss the aspects of dialysis water that affect patient safety and how these can be managed in order to minimise the potential risks to renal patients.

“Water is usually not considered as part of the haemodialysis prescription, but it is a fundamental part of the haemodialysis treatment. Due to the nature of their illness and the dialysis treatment, patients are vulnerable to suffer ill effects from poor quality dialysis water,” said Jan Cowperthwaite, Corporate Director of Clinical Education at Diaverum.

“It is therefore important that all staff, nurses as well as technicians with a responsibility for any aspect of the water treatment system have the knowledge to identify hazards which may create a risk to the patient’s health and safety and take appropriate corrective actions. By sharing our best practices at this year’s EDTNA/ERCA, we want to support others to improve the care they give,” explained Jan Cowperthwaite.

The best practices are derived from the Water Education Programme, which was introduced in 2011 and forms a substantial part of Diaverum’s nurse education programme, Competence in Practice.

“The aim of Diaverum is to constantly raise the level of quality in the care that we deliver and to generate the best possible medical outcomes for all our patients. Within our kidney centre network we have introduced excellent technology, specific policies and procedures as well as a training programme that is appropriately tailored to the circumstances of water treatment systems to ensure optimal quality of dialysis water,” commented Dr. Jörgen Hegbrant, Chief Medical Officer at Diaverum.

In addition, Diaverum representatives will be available to introduce the organisation and its services in the exhibition area at booth 9. Interested nurses and medical staff can receive information about Diaverum as an employer, the services offered and the Diaverum ‘touch that makes the difference’.

The 43nd EDTNA/ERCA International Conference will run from Saturday, 6 September until Tuesday, 9 September, in Riga, Latvia. This year’s conference theme is ‘Patient-Centred Renal Care – A Multidisciplinary Approach to Holistic Health’.

The Diaverum Corporate Education Session takes place on Sunday, 7 September 2014 at 14.00 in the Omega 1 of the Congress Centre. The full agenda and programme can be found at: http://www.edtnaerca-conference2014.com/corporate-education-sessions/

The EDTNA/ERCA International Conference brings together an international mix of renal professionals, industry partners, national association representatives and universities. Diaverum has been a partner of the conference for many years. Industry symposia and industry-supported sessions, such as the Diaverum Corporate Education Session, are a key part of the Conference Scientific Programme.
