Teams Join Previously Invited Fnatic, Astralis, Optic Gaming, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team Liquid and Vitality

JULY 25, 2019 | STOCKHOLM — DreamHack today announced three new invitations to the upcoming Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament, CORSAIR DreamHack Masters Malmö, to be held in Malmö October 4-6, 2019. The new additions are:  NRG Esports, Furia and Ence. They join the previously-announced Swedish superstars Ninjas in Pyjamas; number one-ranked Team Liquid; the French team Vitality; Fnatic; Astralis; and Optic Gaming, who earned their invitation by winning the DreamHack Open at DreamHack Summer.

CORSAIR DreamHack Masters Malmö will feature 16 of the best CS:GO teams in the world, battling it out in the hunt for a share of the $250,000 prize pool. The tournament is split into two stages: a group stage — played at Malmömässan;  and the playoffs — played in front of the crowd at Malmö Arena. More invited teams will be announced, with some of the 11 remaining spots to be decided by online qualifiers.

The North American team NRG Esports is sure to be looking for redemption as the team made an early exit at CORSAIR DreamHack Masters Dallas. Currently ranked as number five in the world, NRG truly is a force to recognize. IF they were to win, that would mark two consecutive North American winners at two consecutive CORSAIR DreamHack Masters.

The Brazilian squad of Furia truly is the up-and-comer of this season, having claimed some impressive top placements, including a 3-4th finish at CORSAIR DreamHack Masters Dallas. Can this be the team to place Brazil as the top CS:GO country again?

The impressive saga of ENCE continues. The Finnish team was the runner-up at CORSAIR DreamHack Masters Dallas, followed by a surprisingly early exit at their next, big international competition before immediately bouncing back and claiming another second place finish after that. Time will tell if they'll be able to even higher in Malmö and claim the trophy.

MALMÖ GAME WEEK

Malmö, home to several successful game developers, is determined to become one of the leading gaming hubs in Europe. As part of this aspiration, the city has created Malmö Game Week to connect the industry, the game developers and the community through different events including esports, board game championships, BYOC LAN, cosplay, expos, conferences, workshops. One esports event to be featured during Malmö Game Week is the Esports School Championship —  an activity sure to engage both youth audiences and parents alike.

“One of the initial goals with Malmö Game Week was to bring back a big arena event, something that has one been fulfilled as CORSAIR DreamHack Masters returns to the city,” said Paul Petterson-Rebelo, Project Manager at Malmö stad.

MALMÖ LAN

Premiered  in 2018, MalmöLAN is now a BYOC LAN event in Malmö that, in 2018, had 500 seats in its LAN area. Now MalmöLAN returns for a second edition as part of Malmö Game Week, September 27-29, 2019. Last year’s event featured BYOC tournaments, expo, cosplay and much more. More information will be released regarding the 2019 edition soon.
