Kungens kurva gets its queen
Plans are now at an advanced stage for Victoria, a new district, in Kungens kurva in Stockholm. In Victoria, there are plans for approximately 3,500 apartments, restaurants, cafés, a green neighbourhood park, a school and nursery schools as well as care and other local services.
Balder and KF Fastigheter co-own the joint venture company that was created to develop the future district in Kungens kurva. The ambition is that Victoria shall become a suburb of the capital city. The conditions for this are favourable with northern Europe’s largest marketplace in the area, the new lively district with its attractive residential environments and nature close by in Gömmaren Nature reserve.
“Victoria is just what Kungens kurva needs. The large neighbourhood park in the centre and the urban neighbourhood environment around it, brings Manhattan to mind – a “royal Manhattan,” says David Johansson, MD of the JV company Victoria Kungens kurva AB and Regional Manager Property Development at Balder.
The name Victoria has its origins in the Latin word victor, which means winner or conqueror. It is a beautiful name that exudes strength and elegance, which is also the aim of the new district. Pleasant homes in energetic and creative blocks will be built here.
“It feels very exciting to be involved in creating a lively new district with housing in Kungens kurva. Proximity to both commerce and nature combined with good communications provides a very good basis for creating a sustainable future area to the south of Stockholm,” says Helena Liljedahl, CEO of KF Fastigheter.
Tramway South (Spårväg syd) will have its own station in the district and the communications will be good. Pedestrian and bicycle paths will connect the district’s blocks and the surrounding area. Victoria is also located next to the beautiful Gömmaren Nature reserve, which offers all from bathing and fishing in the summer to skiing and ice skating during the winter.
“This is the start of a new and exciting chapter for Kungens kurva, which is developing from a retail area into everything that a regional centre should contain: housing, workplaces, entertainment and shopping and also with one of the Municipality’s most beautiful nature areas at your doorstep,” says Daniel Dronjak, Chairman of the Municipal Executive Board in Huddinge.
After the summer, Huddinge Municipality plans to put out the first zoning plan for the new district in Kungens kurva for consultation. Construction start is planned for 2023.
Kungens Kurva in Huddinge Municipality together with Skärholmen, has been designated as a regional centre in the county council’s “Regional development plan for the Stockholm region”, i.e. an area that lies outside the city but that will relieve pressure on the city with offices, housing and communications. The Municipality is also working on a development plan for the long-term development of Kungens kurva, in which housing will play a central role. Significant infrastructural investments are also being planned in the Municipality including Tramway South (Spårväg syd) and the Stockholm Bypass (Förbifart Stockholm), among other projects.
