The first residents are moving into Karlatornet
Construction of the tallest building in the Nordic region, Karlatornet, began at Lindholmen in Gothenburg in 2017. Now, the building is ready to welcome its first residents. On Tuesday, the first households gained access to their residences, and by summer 2024, all apartment owners are expected to have moved in.
Karlatornet accommodates a total of 611 apartments, ranging from studio flats to 370-square-meter penthouse apartments. Apartments from fifth floor up to the 27th floor are now fully completed and ready to welcome the residents in tenant-owner association 1 (out of 4). Among the first to move in is Armin Goroghi, who will reside in a two-bedroom apartment on the eighth floor.
"It feels fantastic; I've been waiting for this moment for a long time! There are many different factors that make me want to live here: the incredible location on Lindholmen, the modern living with a wide range of services, and simply the fact that it's such an impressive building," says Armin.
Over the next few weeks, around 90 households will be moving in, and by the end of the year, two out of the total four tenant-owner associations are expected to be fully occupied, amounting approximately 400 apartments. The move-in process will occur gradually as the apartments are completed. Karlatornet is expected to be fully occupied by the summer of 2024.
On site to welcome some of the excited homeowners were Ola Serneke, CEO of Serneke Invest and initiator of Karlatornet, and Erik Selin, CEO of Balder, whose joint venture company owns Karlatornet.
“This is, of course, a significant milestone in the project that we are now crossing as people move into the building. It feels somewhat unreal that we are actually here now and that it's starting to come together. I am very happy on behalf of many today – those who are moving in first and foremost, but also all employees who have worked hard on this for a long time. This is the result of excellent collaboration among many individuals, and I want to express my gratitude to them today," says Ola Serneke.
“It feels really good that the move-in process has begun and that the tower has started to fill with residents. A building isn't truly complete until it's filled with life and activity. It is the result of fantastic work from many individuals who have brought us to this point, and who are collectively working to finalise this unique building that will become Gothenburg's new landmark," says Erik Selin.
In addition to residences, Karlatornet will also house a hotel, restaurant and offices in its adjoining podium buildings. On the 69th floor, an observation deck is being constructed, where the public can enjoy not only a magnificent view but also good food and drinks. The hotel, operated by the Strawberry Group, is expected to open in the summer of 2024. The office building will be in use by the end of the year, and the observation deck is planned to open in the latter half of 2024.
