In July, Fazer will once again open up a pop-up café in Pori. This year, the café will be located at Yrjönkatu 12, at the corner of Itäpuisto. The Fazer Café will remain open during the SuomiAreena and Pori Jazz events, from 11 to 17 July, offering community events in addition to delicious café sensations to the visitors to SuomiAreena.

In the second week of July in Pori, Fazer will open a Fazer Café, which will function as the centre of summery Finland for the duration of SuomiAreena and Pori Jazz. The pop-up Fazer Café will be situated in a central location, at the junction of Yrjönkatu and Itäpuisto. The café serves familiar Fazer classics, delicious pastries, breads and lunch, as well as refreshing snacks and drinks. It has been designed particularly with the guests of the SuomiAreena event in mind.

“We wanted to bring a genuine Fazer Café to Pori, a café that would also serve as a place for meetings and events for the people taking part in SuomiAreena. The café is a perfect spot to get a boost for the day in the form of a good breakfast or to continue the discussion over a cup of coffee at the end of the day. The café welcomes everyone enjoying the summery city of Pori, from locals to holidaymakers and event guests”, says Miika Kostilainen, Director of Fazer Cafés.

Fazer Café – at the centre of events in Pori

SuomiAreena's theme this year is Finnish work and NGO activity. As part of the event, Fazer will be hosting both an event of its own in the café as well as the events from other parties. At 10 a.m. on Wednesday 13 July, Fazer will hold an event in which it will reveal the company's gift to Finland, which will turn 100 in 2017. The event's participants, who will be discussing Finnish work, include Christoph Vitzthum, President and CEO of he Fazer Group, Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, Minister of Education and Culture, Ann Selin, Union President of Service Union United (PAM), Olli Holmström, Managing Director of the Helsinki Deaconess Institute, Amu Urhonen, Chairperson of the Threshold Association, and Riku Rantala, the founder of the Startup Refugees network. On Tuesday and Friday of the event week, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Kuluttajaliitto will give people visiting the café a chance to take part in a nationwide waste competition, which aims to share good ideas and thereby to reduce the amount of food waste throughout the food chain. At 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, 14 July, the Helsinki Deaconess Institute will challenge SuomiAreena guests to come and challenge their own immigration-related attitudes at the café.

“It will be 125 years this coming autumn since the young and brave Karl Fazer established his first café on Kluuvikatu, Helsinki. Throughout their history, cafés have played a role as stages for public discussion and debate. SuomiAreena is an important event, which is why we wanted to have a visible presence in Pori this year as well”, says Ulrika Romantschuk, SVP of Communications and Branding.

The pop-up café's second floor will also house a conference room which seats eight people and can be booked for private events. Enquiries: katja.steinby@fazer.com
