Fazer challenges young talents in Global Impact Competition
The Global Impact Competition challenges young entrepreneurial-minded specialists in their own fields to explore the possibilities of technology in promoting health and well-being. Fazer is one of the main partners of the competition. By offering the competition support, Fazer wants to encourage entrepreneurship in Finland.
The Global Impact Competition is an annual competition organised by the Singularity University. The winner is invited to attend a ten-week Global Solutions Program in Silicon Valley. The aim of the competition is to find motivated individuals who wish to impact the world positively by leveraging technologies. The competition will now be arranged for the second time in Finland, in cooperation with sponsor companies and the other Nordic countries. The theme for 2016 is “Digital Health and Well-being”.
Heli Arantola, SVP, Strategy and Renewal of Fazer Group says: “We are excited about this competition. Being part of it supports our target to renew and find new business opportunities through open innovation. We want to utilise new technologies, break silos and challenge ourselves, too, to brave new thinking.”
”Solving the world’s biggest issues will open up endless business opportunities. This thinking is a growing trend in Silicon Valley where entrepreneurs and investors are in search of new openings in places where quickly-advancing technologies and global problems meet. It is great and very important that successful Finnish companies like Fazer are on the crest of this wave of pioneers,” says alumni of Singularity University Maria Ritola.
By supporting the competition, Fazer wants to encourage entrepreneurship in Finland by offering young talents an opportunity to learn and utilise world-class technologies in solving socially significant problems. Fazer’s story started from a young entrepreneur’s innovativeness in 1891. This year marks Fazer’s 125th anniversary.
The theme of the competition, “Digital Health and Well-being”, has a strong link to food as well. Fazer, being a leading provider of food and food services in the Baltic Sea region, is present in the daily lives of millions of consumers.
Heli Arantola goes on to explain: “We hope this competition will generate more interest in and discussion around food as a factor maintaining health and well-being. In connection with food and well-being, we follow the development of product and service innovations using new technologies with great interest.”
Fazer is involved in many cooperation projects with universities and young talents. As an example, there is the RSA Design Awards competition related to reducing food waste.
