Fazer introduces world-first Taste the Future chocolate snack bar powered by Solein® in Singapore

Fazer actively monitors shifting consumer trends and requirements and drives the development of the food industry. To be in the forefront of the development requires fearless innovation and now Fazer introduces a unique chocolate snack bar, Fazer Taste the Future, powered by Solein®, in Singapore. Solein® is created out of thin air and Singapore is the first in the world with a novel food approval for the ingredient. The snack bar is available as a limited edition at selected shops in Singapore from 18 January 2024. The exciting innovation is a part of Fazer’s agenda for developing the future of chocolate.

Introducing innovative and sustainable food solutions is one of Fazer’s strategic priorities, and to this aim, the company introduces a delicious addition to its offering. Fazer offers consumers in Singapore the unique opportunity to taste a product that includes Solein®, protein created out of thin air made by Solar Foods, a Finnish food technology company on a mission to revolutionise global food production. In 2022 Solein® received its novel regulatory approval in Singapore which makes it the first country in the world where consumers can enjoy products with Solein®. Solar Foods has a novel food approval process in progress for Europe and the approval is expected to be received by the end of 2025.

Fazer Taste the Future dark chocolate snack bar contains strawberries, hazelnut and Nordic oat puffs high in fibre. The snack bar is powered by Solein®, a highly functional, nutritious and versatile ingredient that enriches the flavours and makes the bar high in iron. The snack bar is also palm oil free.

Fazer transforms innovations into tasty products

The limited edition of Taste the Future chocolate snack bar powered by Solein® will be introduced at selected The Cocoa Trees candy shops in Singapore. Fazer will also arrange an open tasting on 18th and 20th January at Raffles City Shopping Centre’s The Cocoa Trees shop.

As the world is rapidly changing and it is increasingly difficult to predict consumer behaviour and requirements, direct consumer feedback is very valuable. With consumer feedback received through the tasting, Fazer will develop the product further and initiate preparations for potential wider launches in Europe once needed regulatory approvals have been received.

Fazer Taste the Future Snack Bar 44 g

• Fazer Taste the Future Snack Bar is a dark chocolate snack bar with hazelnut, dried strawberries and Solein®. In chocolate cocoa solids 70% minimum.
• The snack bar contains 2% Solein® grown with CO2 and electricity.
• Singapore is the only country in the world with a novel food approval for Solein®, microbial protein rich powder.
• Fazer is the first FMCG company introducing a product containing Solein®.
• Solein® is a highly functional, nutritious and versatile ingredient. In Fazer Taste the Future chocolate snack bar Solein® enriches the flavours and makes the snack bar high in iron.
• Fazer Taste the Future snack bar also contains crunchy oat puffs created by Fazer Lab, Fazer’s R&D and innovation unit. Oat puffs of Nordic origin make the chocolate snack bar high in fibre.
• Taste the Future Snack Bar is vegan friendly and palm oil free, and made from 100% responsibly produced cocoa, as all Fazer's chocolates.
• Fazer Taste the Future Snack Bars have been produced as a limited edition in Vantaa, Finland. The handmade snack bars will be available as a part of bundle offer in selected The Cocoa Trees shops in Singapore from 18 January 2024.

What is Solein®?   

• Solein® is nutritionally rich. It can taste and look like anything you use it for. It is unparalleled in its functionality – it can be used in any food, regardless of diet.
• Solein® is a novel protein grown out of thin air. It is produced by the Finnish company Solar Foods.
• Solein® originates from a natural, unmodified, single-cell organism. 
• Instead of watering and fertilising the organism, Solein® is created by a fermentation process that utilises air and electricity as its primary resources.
• Solein® is grown without agriculture. It only needs a tiny fraction of the land, water, and energy compared to animal or plant production. 
• Solein® is an extremely diverse protein ingredient. It also provides iron, fibre, and B vitamins. For Fazer Taste the Future chocolate snack bar, Solein® brings iron which is usually lacking in plant-based diets. 
• Solar Foods received the first novel food regulatory approval for Solein® on 29 September 2022 in Singapore from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).
