Fazer’s Christmas novelties: classic flavours and new treats
In honour of Fazer’s 130th anniversary, our Christmas confectionery and biscuit selection offers plenty of new and traditional delicacies you can treat yourself to – or give as a gift. In addition to our new products, you can find many familiar classics in the selection. Fazer’s Christmas delicacies are made in Vantaa and Lappeenranta.
Enjoying delicious treats is an essential part of Christmas, and in addition to long-time favourites, it’s nice to explore new flavours. Fazer’s confectionery Christmas is once again a blend of the new and the traditional, and is suitable for both one’s own enjoyment and as gifts. A full 98% of Fazer’s all confectionery products are manufactured in Finland: our chocolate products are made at Fazerila in Vantaa, and our other sweets are made in Lappeenranta.
The anticipation of Christmas begins with the Christmas calendar. Teresita Fazer, the wife of Sven Fazer, brought the idea of the advent calendar from Sweden to Finland in 1947. She had seen advent calendars in Sweden and shared this with the board of the Finnish Girl Guide Association. Based on what she had seen, the first Finnish advent calendar was designed by Sven Fazer’s niece Ulla von Wendt. The illustration used on the advent calendar was a brown gingerbread house. It was only later that chocolate was added to advent calendars. One of the first Finnish Christmas chocolate calendars, sold in the 1980s at Fazer’s shop in Helsinki, was a round house filled with sweets behind little doors. The original illustrations used on this calendar are displayed at Fazer’s Visitor Centre in Vantaa.

Behind each door of the advent calendar, there’s a little surprise for every day leading up to Christmas. All the waiting and anticipation culminates on Christmas Eve when you get to open the biggest door on the calendar. The calendar is full of Fazer milk chocolate, whose recipe was a thank you from a grateful friend. What a kind thing to do!

Jaffa is Finland’s most popular brand of biscuits, and Julia chocolate is a Christmas classic found at the Christmas table of every Finnish family. On Christmas 2021, this all-time favourite is also available in the form of Jaffa Julia biscuit.

The Remix Xmas candy bag now has six different Christmas wishes: the traditional Hyvää joulua (Merry Christmas in Finnish), God Jul (Merry Christmas in Swedish) and Merry Christmas as well as other fun greetings: Senkin tonttu (‘You silly elf’), Moro Poro (‘Hello Deer’) and Glaiduu Jouluu (Merry Christmas in Helsinki slang).

The loveliest marshmallows this Christmas! The Christmas Hearts bag contains delicious heart-shaped gingerbread-flavoured marshmallows. A Christmas treat that has been very popular in Sweden is now brought to Finnish consumers by Fazer.
Traditional Christmas delicacies
Christmas and the lead-up to it are full of traditions, and some Fazer products have even become Christmas symbols. For some, Vihreät Kuulat marmalades bring the Christmas spirit, while for others Christmas definitely includes Wiener nougat. For Christmas 2021, the Wiener Nougat recipe will be changed by replacing palm oil with cocoa butter. All pralines made for Christmas 2021 will be manufactured using the new recipe, but the packaging will be changed gradually as we do not want to waste any of the packaging material. Our chocolate tablets have all the familiar Christmas flavours: almond and cranberry, apple crunch, and gingerbread. Gingerbread is also available in the traditional form: Fazer Gingerbread brings the Christmas spirit – with or without chocolate. The Karl Fazer Collection chocolate boxes will receive an updated look but the contents will stay unchanged.
