Karl Fazer shop-in-shop opens at Helsinki Airport – an immersive chocolate experience for all senses
A Karl Fazer shop-in-shop has opened in the Avolta store at Helsinki Airport, inviting travellers to experience chocolate and Finland, the world’s happiest country, with all their senses.
“Our shop-in-shop looks, smells, tastes and feels like Karl Fazer Milk Chocolate – and like Finland, the world’s happiest country. We’ve turned chocolate shopping into a sensory journey into the Finnish state of mind,” says Kari Kuikka, Director, Travel Retail & Industrial, Fazer Confectionery.
In the Karl Fazer shop-in-shop, travellers can use artificial intelligence to create fun photo souvenirs of themselves in traditional Finnish settings, such as a birch forest, Lapland or on a sauna trip. The experience is complemented by striking chocolate bar structures and chocolate‑bar chair where visitors can pause to watch inspiring stories about Finnish nature.
“Every detail in the shop-in-shop, starting with the scent of chocolate, has been designed to evoke emotions and create lasting memories. A fleeting moment at the airport can become an important part of an unforgettable journey – so it’s worth following the chocolatey scent that greets you at Helsinki Airport”, Kuikka says.
Experiential retail is driving both engagement and sales in travel
Airports have evolved from simple transit points into integral parts of the travel experience, where immersive shopping experiences play a significant role.
“For many travellers, the airport is both the first and the last touchpoint with a destination, shaping the overall impression of the country. Travellers want to encounter the essence of a place in a way that feels authentic and inspiring. The Karl Fazer shop-in-shop reflects this global shift by bringing the essence of Finland, the world’s happiest country, to life at the airport. Its strong early performance speaks for itself. Visitor numbers are clearly growing, and early sales performance has been encouraging, confirming that the experience has been well received by travellers. It demonstrates how experiential retail can create both emotional impact and commercial value”, Kuikka adds.
