Majlen Fazer has been selected as the recipient of the 2023 ISM Award. Majlen Fazer, the great-granddaughter of Fazer Group’s founder Karl Fazer, is a seasoned professional who has during her career worked with various tasks related to chocolate and its most important ingredient, cocoa. The award was handed to the winner on Sunday evening during an event organised in Cologne, Germany.

The ISM Award is granted for a lifetime’s work and an exceptional contribution towards the development of the confectionery industry. The award, which this year was presented for the ninth time, is handed to an industrial or commercial representative who has led the development of their company or otherwise contributed to the confectionery industry in an impressive manner. ISM is the world’s leading confectionery and snack industry event. The winner of the ISM Award is selected by an international panel of judges comprising representatives from the industry, commerce and science.

Fazer’s founder Karl Fazer’s great-granddaughter Majlen Fazer has worked with various tasks related to chocolate and confectionery for her entire career. The driving force has always been quality and taste. With Majlen’s support, Fazer has developed the demanding production of hand-made pralines, a handicraft that requires specialist skills. Karl Fazer’s tradition is still strongly present in the company where traditional craftmanship and modern food technology go hand in hand. For the past years, Majlen Fazer’s work has focused on cocoa procurement, developing Fazer’s cocoa farmer programmes and quality-related development work. In their justifications, the judges focused particularly on the work Majlen has done to promote sustainable development.

“Majlen Fazer’s passion for quality, taste and the sustainable future of the chocolate industry convinced the jury. As a company, Fazer is striving to get the food industry on the path to a liveable future with environmentally-friendly, healthy and high-quality products and packaging,” says Gerald Böse, President and CEO of Koelnmesse GmbH.

“I am very happy for this award and grateful that the work I have done to develop the industry has been acknowledged. Cocoa is the heart and soul of our products. Taste and quality are still just as important for us as they were to my grandfather’s father Karl. We must continue to invest in developing the cocoa communities while ensuring that our operations protect the environment and biodiversity,” says Majlen Fazer.
