Recycled Fazer Remix bags converted into stunning evening gown

This autumn, the star of Fazer Remix adverts is Miss Divet wearing an evening gown by designer Joona Rautiainen. The outfit made of sweet bags stirs Finns to see rubbish as raw material and recycle packaging correctly. Since 2019, a total of 70,225 m2 of plastic has been decreased successfully from Remix bags. That amounts to almost ten full football pitches!

To honour this autumn’s new Fazer Remix product, Fazer Remix Lakritsi, Fazer wants to inspire Finns to recycle sweet bags and use them to create something new. Last summer, empty sweet bags were collected from Finnish candy lovers, and Fazer invited young designer Joona Rautiainen to turn them into a stand for the circular economy. Over three hundred recycled bags were transformed into a stunning evening gown that is now worn by drag character Miss Divet in the Remix advertising campaign.

“We want to make people think of everyday things, such as an empty sweet bag, in a new way. The bag can be raw material for something new, for example, a piece of jewellery or even an outfit. And if you don’t want to make use of the bag yourself, you should sort it as plastic waste so that someone else can reuse the material,” says Anne Repo, Marketing Director at Fazer Confectionery Finland.

Fazer Remix Lakritsi is a varied mix for liquorice lovers. In addition to the fruity flavours and traditional salty liquorice, you will also find wonderful liquorice sweets with granulated chocolate and candy in the mix. The flavours are: Tutti Frutti piece of fruit, Choco Ässä salty liquorice and liquorice, Lakupätkä, Tutti Frutti liquorice with flavoured filling, Lontoon rae and Tyrkisk Peber foam drop.

Sustainable packaging

The purpose of use determines the most suitable packaging for a product, and the primary task of the packaging is to protect the product and make sure the consumer receives it in a good condition. In addition, the packaging features product information and makes the use and processing of the product easier.

Plastic is still the best available packaging material for sweets. It improves the shelf life of sweets, thus decreasing food waste. The plastic used in Fazer Remix bags can be sorted for recycling as plastic waste, and every bag has a recycling symbol.

Fazer has also adapted packaging sizes and investigated the use of thinner materials to decrease the amount of material needed for the packaging. Since 2019, a total of 70,225 m2 of plastic has been decreased successfully from Remix bags. That amounts to almost ten full football pitches!
