Marketing campaign ideas for International Women’s Day

Report this content

International Women’s Day on March 8th is approaching and as a marketing or ecommerce manager, chances are you want to make the most out of this event.

It’s worth noting that there are different opinions about this particular day and some think that it’s wrong to celebrate women on just one particular and not all year through. Others think it’s a great opportunity to celebrate women, the way they should be celebrated.

Whichever is your opinion, if you and your team have decided to actually launch a campaign for this day, here are some quick and simple things you can try. But hurry up before time runs out!

Offer special deals and discounts

This is probably the type of campaign that first comes into your mind. Just make sure that there’s a clear time frame for when the discount is valid. Promote your special deal in social media.

If you want to be a little creative and do something different, why not try doing it as a user-generated content (UGC) campaign. Ask your customers to submit content or share something in their own channels, while getting a discount as a reward. Or make it a contest.

Special deal for your female customers

Why not create a special deal for your female customers? This type of campaign may not be suitable for all brands as it depends on what you are selling and to whom you are selling it. Targeting all the females in your email database or in social media is easy and can be effective, but keep in mind other demographics also such as age, city, occupation etc.

There’s always a risk doing these kind of campaigns as it could imply that all the other 364 days are just for the male customers. You know your brand and your customers best, so the choice is yours.

Post photos of your female staff members

If you have both females and males in your staff, take a photo of your female staff members and post it on social media. If you’re a B2B company, challenge your clients to do the same.

If you’re a B2C company, challenge your followers to post similar photos of themselves if they’re females or of their mothers, sisters or girlfriends if they’re males, using a special hashtag.

Blog about it and include guest bloggers

Write about female entrepreneurship. Or write an article about the females in your industry. Or why not post a guest blog post from a female manager in your company, or from one of your partners. If you have the time or resources for it, create a video instead of a blog post, and post it on Youtube or Facebook.

Launch a charity campaign

Launch a campaign where you make donations to a female-focused charity. Everyone likes to contribute to society and this is a great way to do it. Charity campaigns work all year through and you don’t have to just do it on particular occasions. Raising awareness for certain causes is always a good idea.

Make it viral on Twitter

Twitter is an underrated platform, but if you are looking for a place other than Instagram to utilize hashtags, this is where to go. Contrary to common belief, Twitter users don’t only stick to plain text — gifs, videos and images are commonly used and including them in a tweet will increase the organic reach.

When you create your International Women’s Day campaign, try launching it on Twitter too and make it known to your Twitter followers what they should do to become a part of your buzz.

Showcase photos from your female customers

Again, this depends on what industry you’re in. But if you have a lot of female customers posting photos in social media, why not make us of them and integrate them on your website as UGC?

You can do this as a hashtag campaign, or a contest. Or you can just re-post their photos, simply because they’re great and deserve to be seen. Just make sure you ask for permission first, using a suitable tool for rights request and managing this type of content.

Organize a breakfast event or a webinar

Host a breakfast event and invite female inspirational speakers in your niche or industry. It’s not necessary to organize a full one-day event, just one or two hours could be enough. If you don’t have enough time, considering it’s less than a week until March 8th, you can host a webinar instead.
