Digital transformation seminars in Singapore

Getinge recently organized two seminars in Singapore to share success stories and experiences from healthcare professionals who have been through the digital transformation journey for their hospitals. With hospitals facing challenges in growing costs and staff shortages globally, the digital transformation is increasingly considered an important solution not just to improve efficiency, but also staff satisfaction and patient experience.

The speaker for the first seminar on ‘Improving Surgical Outcomes with AI’, was Dr Thomas Ramolla, Head of OR Management from Klinikum Stuttgart. This is a hospital comprising 2,300 beds at four locations, performing 60,000 surgical procedures per year in 52 operating theatres. Dr Ramolla detailed how Getinge’s digital solution Torin OR Management Solution has helped him maximize resource utilization, enhanced coordination, and improved patient care. The digital transformation, implemented over a period of 9 months, resulted in:

  • 15 minutes saved before the first morning cut
  • 3.4% increase in number of surgeries
  • 4% increase in profit

More than sixty healthcare professionals from government hospitals in Singapore took part in this seminar. The audience comprised of senior management, heads of surgery departments, and OR nurses. There were many questions raised during the panel discussion mainly pertaining to the integration of Torin with the hospital’s systems and processes, as well as technical aspects of how AI was applied to optimize OR scheduling. The level of interaction indicates the appreciation of the audience for this timely seminar, which meets the needs of their plans to explore digital solutions to optimize their operational decision-making.

The second seminar focused on the CSSD (Central Sterile Supplies Department), a department closely linked, and crucial to the functioning of the operating room. Named after T-DOC, the digital traceability solution from Getinge, the ‘1st T-DOC User Forum’ was attended by more than 70 CSSD practitioners from the South Asia Pacific region, including Singapore, other SEA countries, and India. Three experienced users from Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia presented on the digital transformation journey of their CSSDs, giving valuable advice for taking on this formidable task, and explaining the substantial improvements it can bring.

Questions raised by the audience during the panel discussion includes change management from paper-based to digital system, advice on getting buy-in from senior management to invest in digital transformation and introduction of robotics into the CSSD workflow.

Following the panel discussion, there were breakout group discussions whereby the audience were divided into advanced and basic groups, catering to experienced and new or non-users of T-DOC respectively. These sessions gave participants the opportunity to ask further questions, and allow Getinge to understand the needs of users for future improvements to T-DOC.
