Getinge is one of the industry partners of the new Center for the Advancement of Integrated Medical and Engineering Sciences (AIMES), which today is inaugurated in Stockholm, Sweden.

AIMES is the result of a collective effort by the medical research university Karolinska Institutet and KTH Royal Institute of Technology. The center’s mission is to promote interdisciplinary research and how it can be turned into societal use.

“We are very proud to be part of AIMES. The clear focus on societal benefits will generate new products that can help medical teams all over the world save more lives at the same time as they emphasize Sweden’s competitiveness within medical science and engineering,” says Harald Castler, President Life Science at Getinge.

The strengthened Swedish competitiveness is the topic for Getinge’s principal owner Carl Bennet’s keynote speech at the inauguration.

In 2018, Getinge signed an agreement supporting the center's operations with grants over three years. One of the initial research projects aims at identifying ways to reduce pneumonia among patients receiving mechanical ventilation.

“We are very grateful for having Getinge onboard. Their support helps us create the long-term scientific and financial conditions that are required for securing progress for interdisciplinary researchers and students,” says Professor Agneta Richter-Dahlfors, Director of AIMES.
