As a student, Bárbara Meneses, who works as a Getinge service technician in Brazil, wanted to embark on a career in agricultural business – but she found her true calling during a hospital internship that was part of a course in electrotechnology.

“Clinical engineering was love at first sight for me,” Bárbara Meneses says. “What could be more inspiring than ensuring that lifesaving devices works as intended, helping patients to recover and getting back home to the relatives that are waiting for them?”

Bárbara believes that every work day helps her become a better version of herself and being part of saving patients’ lives is her priority.

“Getinge’s passion for life and dedication to form partnerships with our customers is an ideal fit for me. Customer relations are like friendships, and you don’t let your friends down. They can trust that their crucial equipment are in good hands with me,” Bárbara explains.

Mechanical ventilators are Bárbara’s specialty and ensuring that every device that helps patients breathe works perfectly has been more important than ever during the pandemic.

“COVID-19 brought a mixture of feelings. Knowing that our work was essential for the patients and the hospitals helped charge me with courage to face my own fears and the risks related to the virus. We had to find ways to provide support in as safe ways as possible,” Bárbara says.

Being flexible also includes juggling her job as a service technician on the move with family life.

“This career is challenging and there are some really difficult obstacles, but they are not impossible to handle. For me, this is a job that gives much more than it takes.”
