Students champion local food at social evening
A CELEBRATION of local food was the theme of a social evening arranged by Harper Adams students earlier this week.
Around 50 students and staff from food-related courses turned up to the event held at the Regional Food Academy exhibition hall on campus.
It was arranged by Anna Bird, Emily Goring and April Graham, who are all in the second year of a BSc (Hons) Food Nutrition and Well Being degree.
19-year-old Anna from Malvern, Worcestershire, said: “We chose local food to raise awareness of local companies to Harper and to promote the Regional Food Academy.
“Gregory's Soup Ltd supplied produce, as well as Greenfield Farm Shop in Donnington, Mr Moyden’s Cheese in Newport and Buttercross Farm in Market Drayton.”
A hamper was up for the grabs, for the person who could guess the total food-miles of the produce inside it most correctly. This was supplied by Greenfield Farm Shop.
The students also decorated the exhibition space with colourful bunting and balloons.
Anna added: “The social event was part of an assignment for the Integrated Marketing Communications module.
“Everyone that we spoke to said that they really enjoyed it, and we have had good feedback from both staff and students.”
