A fire fighter from Blackpool Airport is preparing to cycle from Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower with five friends to raise money for the Brian House Children’s Hospice.

Nick Perks, bank manager Andy Charles, Lancashire fire fighter John Charles, Dr David Charles and policeman Lee Kelly will meet on Saturday 12th May at Brian House and start their gruelling journey from Blackpool Tower at 8.00am.

They will be joined by local DJ Rob Bennett, who will be driving the support vehicle, which has been provided by Fylde based A & J Plasterers.

With a seven day, 600 mile journey ahead of them, the team have been busy training during evenings and weekends in order to ensure they stick to the tight schedule.

There has been plenty of local support too. Blackpool Airport bosses have donated £200 and Allitt Estate Agents and Spire Fylde Coast Hospital are the shirt sponsors.

Nick, who previously took part in the Three Peaks challenge with fellow fire fighters at the airport for the same charity, said: “We are all really looking forward to taking part in the Tower to Tower bike ride.

“With Brian House Hospice also being Blackpool Airport’s nominated charity and very close to the hearts of lots of people in Blackpool and the Fylde, we feel really proud to be raising much needed funds.

“We have received fantastic support from our friends & family, local businesses and employers and every minute of effort will be worth it in the end.”

Sue Kendrick, Corporate Affairs Manager at Blackpool Airport, said: “Brian House Children’s Hospice is Blackpool Airport’s nominated charity and we were delighted to support the team with a donation.

“Everyone here wishes them luck and we are looking forward to giving them a hero’s welcome when they arrive back on May 20th.”
