IFS upgrades and extends asset management solution at SCA

Report this content

IFS has signed an agreement with SCA Ortviken paper mill and SCA Östrand pulp mill for an upgrade and extension of IFS Applications to increase asset management efficiency at the mills, and improve production availability and quality. The mills have used IFS Applications for asset management since 1994 and 2002, respectively. The agreement covers the latest version of IFS Applications, licenses for new components, and consulting services.

Ortviken paper mill produces lightweight coated paper and newsprint on four machines with an annual capacity of 870,000 tons of paper. Östrand pulp mill produces more than 500,000 tons of pulp per year. The decision to upgrade IFS Applications is part of a major investment program that will remove bottlenecks and increase production with fewer staff.

The new solution will result in:

  • Better standard functionality by using new versions that are adapted to the paper and pulp industry, e.g. support for Standard Solutions Group, SSG, standards
  • A transition to IFS Enterprise Explorer (IFS EE), a modern, user-friendly user interface
  • Enhanced capabilities to support service technicians via mobile terminals
  • Tighter integration of the plants in Ortviken and Östrand, which will enable less tied capital and better execution and optimization of the purchasing process
  • Improved maintenance planning

The production of paper and pulp is a process industry with a high degree of innovation. Investing in continuous improvements to the paper machines means that they can be run at faster speeds while maintaining quality and reducing waste. This places high demands on the business applications that manage the planning, control and monitoring of the production process.

―It was natural for us to continue to invest in IFS Applications,‖ said Pär Eriksson, maintenance manager at Ortviken paper mill. ―IFS’ consultants understand our industry, and we value IFS’ continued investment in developing solutions for the heavy process industry, in which efficient asset management is the basis for profitable production.‖

The process industry is one of IFS’ targeted markets. IFS provides industry-specific functionality for enterprises in chemicals, food & beverage, pulp and paper, and metals. IFS Applications™ for the pulp and paper industry provides support for all critical business processes, including comprehensive integrated solutions for critical business processes such as asset and product lifecycle management (ALM & PLM), overall equipment efficiency, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), customer relationship management, supply chain management, project management, finance and human resource management.

IFS customers in the heavy process industry include Holmen Paper, Peterson, Iggesund, Billerud, Rottneros, Crane, De La Rue, SSAB, Hutmen and Nucor Corp. Other IFS process industry customers include DuPont, Jotun, Flint Group, Pepsi Shanghai, Akzo Nobel, Becker Acroma, Becker Industrial Coatings, Willamette Valley Company, Dyrup, Heaven Hill distilleries Inc., Nature’s Path, Chingford Fruit, Imerys, Bridor, Cloetta and Kettle Foods.
