Schweinfurt city buses to use IVU technology

Public service provider orders all-round solution for ITCS and EFM

Berlin, 19 November 2015 – Travelling by bus at the best price, no matter when or how often, will soon become a reality for the residents of Schweinfurt. For its new e-ticketing system, Stadtwerke Schweinfurt has opted for a solution from IVU Traffic Technologies AG. The IT specialist provides its proven IVU.suite for fleet management and electronic fare management for public transport.

With a total of 50 buses on 34 lines, Stadtwerke Schweinfurt GmbH ensures reliable public transport in the north Bavarian industrial city. Each year, around eight million passengers use the service to get to work and school or in their free time. The public service provider is now using the IVU solution to build up a flexible e-ticketing system in order to make bus travel even more convenient for its customers.

In the future, anyone who gets on a city bus in Schweinfurt as an e-ticket subscriber can be sure of travelling for the lowest possible fare. Based on the journeys made in a month, the background system IVU.fare automatically calculates the best fare each time to see if day tickets or even a monthly pass would be cheaper than several single tickets, for instance. At the same time, IVU.fare manages the customer data and handles all settlement. The operations management software IVU.fleet gathers the data from all vehicles and makes it available to the connected systems. On the city buses, the on-board computer with an integrated ticket printer and card reader for e-ticketing ensures precise data acquisition. The entire system is fully compatible with the VDV-KA standard.

The special IT process IVU.xpress for short project lead times was a key factor in the decision in favour of IVU. “Of all the systems we looked at, the IVU solution was most suited to our requirements,” said Harald Mendrock, Deputy Head of the Public Transport and Automotive Engineering Department of Stadtwerke Schweinfurt. “In addition to the technical specifications, we were also particularly impressed by IVU's expertise and extensive experience in e-ticketing.” Dr Andreas Gross-Weege, the responsible member of the IVU Traffic Technologies AG Management Board, commented: “We are delighted to have gained Stadtwerke Schweinfurt as a new customer for our IVU.suite. This is further proof of our leading market position in the e-ticketing sector in Germany.”
