New version of the app for iOS and Android with brand-new design

Berlin, 11 March 2015 – For some time now, bus passengers in the German district of Vorpommern-Greifswald have been able to get information about current departure times via a smartphone app. A new version of “VVG live” is now available for iOS and Android devices. This service for the local transport company Verkehrsgesellschaft Vorpommern-Greifswald mbH (VVG) is based on IVU.realtime.app by Berlin-based IVU Traffic Technologies AG.

VVG buses are currently operating on 36 routes in this district. The company’s services also include a long-distance bus route between Greifswald and Neubrandenburg. Users of the smartphone app can request real-time data for numerous bus stops for all routes travelling to those stops and can view minute-by-minute departure times for all buses. In addition to increased stability, the new version of the app notably features a revised user interface. It now follows the specifications of Google’s “Material Design” and therefore fits better into the system environment of current Android devices.

“The app makes travel on our buses even more convenient,” said Dirk Zabel, Managing Director of VVG. “Passengers can plan much more easily and avoid unnecessary delays.” Andreas Hellwig, division leader for IVU Traffic Technologies AG, emphasised: “Particularly in regions with less frequent services, passengers benefit from the real-time information. The app is an important feature of modern service quality in the local public transport system and can help to attract new customers.”

To provide passengers with the necessary information, the background system IVU.realtime continually monitors the position of each vehicle. With a single glance, passengers can see when the next bus is leaving and whether it will arrive at the destination or interchange on time. A route filter provides an overview. In addition, “VVG live” supports travel planning by displaying all stops in the surrounding area based on the GPS location as well as a bus stop search on the map or by name. Users can also store their preferred alighting points as bookmarks to allow for a quicker search.

IVU.realtime.app forms the basis for smartphone apps for transport companies throughout Europe. This allows bus passengers in London and APAM customers in Mantua, Italy, to use it in the same way to plan their journeys. In Germany, the system is used by companies such as Aachen-based ASEAG, Mainzer Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG), wupsi (Kraftverkehr Wupper-Sieg) in Leverkusen and the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis district.

Based on IVU.realtime.app, “VVG live” for iOS and Android provides mobile passenger information with advanced functionalities such a search for the nearest stop or upcoming departures at a stop.
