Interesting company cases about green transition
Raija Polvinen, Research, Development, and Innovation Director at Kiilto, was invited to speak as a company representative alongside other Finnish case companies, joining the global discussion about the business opportunities and stakeholder benefits of a circular economy. Together with Neste and Touchpoint Group, Polvinen will showcase how circular business models can be just as profitable as linear – take, make and waste – business models.
By utilizing new ways of value creation and preservation, businesses like Kiilto are trying to close the loop of raw materials and products, and unlock new, eco-effective revenue streams. This multi-life cycle process of reducing, reusing, and recycling will not only minimize environmental footprints, but also make ecological, social, and economic impacts even more visible and positive.
In the words of Polvinen, “Although building new circular processes may use resources in the beginning, eventually Green is Lean. Circular processes become economical as they are designed for material recovery and meaningful next use, with minimum waste.”
Circularity offers added value
With environmental responsibility at the heart of Kiilto’s strategy, Our Promise to the Environment guides business operations at different organizational levels. This allows Kiilto to sense and seize emerging opportunities and then holistically adopt and implement circular solutions in all areas and functions. For Kiilto, circular thinking acts as a tool for innovation and renewal, particularly in product development and reconfiguring the value chain.
“Moving to a sustainable lifestyle will require new materials and processes, but the chemical industry has a fundamental role to play in this transition. The circular economy requires a shift in the way we approach material design. ‘Design for Disassembly’ is a concept in which materials and products are designed for value retention”, says Polvinen.
WCEF enables game changing logic
This upcoming webinar is a spin-off from the annual WCEF, which was hosted virtually from September 13 to 15. As of now, 80 WCEF side events have been scheduled for the rest of the year to spark greater conversation and collaboration amongst industry leaders, policy makers and circular economy experts.
Building upon previous forums and learnings, WCEF21 and its side events explore the common question: “What transformational steps can we take in the next five years to catalyse the systemic changes required to scale up a global circular economy that is prosperous, inclusive and equitable?” Speakers are encouraged to share game changing ideas and proven circular solutions aimed at accelerating the green transition to stronger, cleaner and better economies of the future. Through new and innovative products, services and business models, the world can enjoy a profitable, sustainable economy that fights climate change and protects biodiversity.
