REPEAT RTG ORDER FOR KONECRANES FROM LUKA KOPER IN SLOVENIA

In May 2011 Konecranes received another RTG order from port and logistics service provider Luka Koper in Slovenia. The order comprises two RTG cranes. Luka Koper is Konecranes’ long-term customer, already having STS and RTG cranes, as well as grab unloaders delivered by Konecranes. The recently ordered cranes will be delivered in 2012. The new contract was signed around the same time as RTG cranes from the previous order were being handed over to the customer. The parties have agreed not to disclose the value of the new order.

Luka Koper is a public limited company providing port and logistics services in the Port of Koper. Apart from serving the Slovenian market, Luka Koper serves also Austria, Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bavaria and the countries of the former Yugoslavia. In 2010 Luka Koper reached a container throughput of 475.000 TEU. The first Konecranes crane was delivered in 2002. After delivery of the recently ordered RTGs, Luka Koper has in total ten Konecranes RTGs in Port Luka.

“Luka Koper has been collaborating with Konecranes for over 11 years. We follow their innovations and development in the field of crane construction, and very often these play a key role in supplier selection (AGD system, fuel saving systems etc.). In particular we appreciate their prompt response and assistance in the event of any potential equipment malfunction, something which is of crucial importance in maintaining unhindered cargo-handling operations, “says Roberto Levanič, Head of Technical Department in the Luka Koper, d.d.

“Luka Koper’s and Konecranes’ cooperation is stronger than ever and we will do our utmost to help our customer in adding productivity in their container handling with these new cranes,” says Thomas Gylling, in charge of container handling crane sales in the area. “Ten RTGs sold is a milestone achieved over the past seven years. Starting from the first contract and continuing with five repeat orders we trust that we have learned a lot from Luka Koper, and are eager to continue our journey together”

The cranes ordered are equipped with the latest DGPS-assisted technology for container yards. This includes the Autosteering feature, which keeps the crane on a pre-programmed straight driving path, thus improving safety and increasing productivity. The RTG container positioning system is connected to the port’s terminal operating system ensuring correct, real time container positioning and maintaining accuracy in inventory. In addition, the cranes will be equipped with technology for remote monitoring, predictive maintenance and remote support. The eco-efficient Konecranes fuel-saving system that will be included reduces fuel consumption significantly by eliminating high-speed idling. It also reduces noise and emissions.

The ordered RTG cranes have a lifting capacity of 40 tons. They can lift one over five containers high, and seven plus truck lane wide.
