Lantmännen showcases Farming of the Future as part of the Swedish EU Presidency
On Tuesday 30th of May, Lantmännen welcomed EU's CAP-Directors at their Farm of the Future Svalöv. The visit to the farm was part of the agricultural policy meeting in Malmö and the Swedish EU presidency. About 100 visitors took part in Lantmännen's plan to reach Farming of the Future by 2050 and were showcased new technology and cultivation methods for more sustainable and productive farming.
CAP-Directors, responsible for the national implementation of the EU's agricultural policy in each Member State, as well as industry and company representatives participated in the field trip to Farm of the Future Svalöv. At Lantmännen’s Farms of the Future, new technology, cultivation methods and inputs are tested and developed. Svalöv also has one of the world's most advanced plant breeding facilities. The afternoon at the farm consisted of presentations and demonstrations of precision farming in the field.
"We are very happy about the visit and it was a fantastic opportunity for us at Lantmännen to showcase Swedish farming at the absolute forefront. But equally important were the discussions about what is needed going forward to achieve an even more profitable, productive and sustainable agriculture – in Sweden and in Europe," says Per Lindahl, Chairman of the Board of Lantmännen.
During the visit to the farm, a panel discussion was also arranged where the questions revolved around strengthening the profitability of European farmers, reducing climate impact while maintaining and increasing productivity, as well as new technology and plant breeding. Per Arfvidsson, Executive Vice President at Lantmännen, participated in the panel discussion together with Christina Nordin, Director General of the Swedish Board of Agriculture, representatives of the European Commission's agricultural policy and the upcoming Spanish EU presidency, State Secretary Dan Ericsson at the Ministry of Agriculture and Infrastructure, Svein Tore Holsether, President and CEO at Yara International, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) and The Federation of Swedish Farmers (LRF).
"We have had great discussions during the day about future issues for agriculture and how we can both increase productivity and reduce climate impact. The opportunities we presented at Svalöv, including a fossil-free grain value chain that we are creating for the 2023 harvest, will be important input into shaping future agricultural policy in Europe,” says Magnus Kagevik, Group President and CEO of Lantmännen.
Highlights from the CAP-Directors' visit to Farm of the Future Svalöv as well as the recorded panel discussion will be available on Lantmännen's website www.lantmannen.com shortly.
