Successful business for Lesjöfors in China brings new investments
The spring supplier Lesjöfors is very successful in China. The demand is high and critical strip components for several world-leading smartphones are already in production. Coming new investments expand business opportunities further.
Strip components for telecom
Lesjöfors has for years been a supplier to several major companies within the telecom sector. In the latest project, strip components are produced to one of the world-leading smartphones whose latest model was launched in September this year. The competence level is constantly expanding thanks to demanding projects like this and Lesjöfors is known for front-edge skills in tool design and manufacturing.
“During the project we have further enhanced our skills, especially in 3D forming and ensuring quality in this area. We have also hired additional highly competent employees in design and technology”, says Mikael Andersson, MD Lesjöfors in China.
Further growth in sight
Several major projects for mainly American telecom companies are ongoing which include manufacturing of about 20 different components. To manage the large volumes, additional investments in pressing capacity have been made during the year. The market potential is still big, so focus is set on further growth alongside increasing orders.
Bright future for springs
In addition to the telecom market, there is a great potential to strengthen Lesjöfors´ position on the Chinese market even more for traditional springs. Several investments have been made to broaden the range in this area. Both competence and capacity are extended in close cooperation with Lesjöfors´ highly efficient unit in Tinglev, Denmark. Also the machinery is basically the same as in Tinglev. A large part of Lesjöfors´ spring range, mainly lighter springs and stampings, is now in production in China. Thanks to the latest investment, springs in the dimension range of 0.16 to about 3,5 mm in wire diameter, are being produced and further investments to widen the production capability is decided.
“Many of our long-relationship customers are global and require the Lesjöfors characteristic high-quality products wherever they operate. We have successfully transferred technique and projects for several major European customers where we now run all business from China with highly satisfied customers as a result”, says Mikael Andersson.
The expansion in China continues
Further investment is planned to offer an ever greater selection in the local Chinese market. Lesjöfors´ whole product range is available already, thanks to external partners. But with own production, greater control throughout the production chain and a greater flexibility is achieved. Lesjöfors is steadily increasing its share of the Chinese market; that is an undoubted fact.
