NCC’s second phase of the Torsplan property in Hagastaden will be the first Swedish building to achieve BREEAM Outstanding. The Stockholm-based office and retail building will be the 12th office building in Europe to achieve a BREEAM Outstanding rating.

“NCC has developed two of the three BREEAM Excellent buildings in Scandinavia. NCC’s position as leader in sustainable development in the construction and property industry is further confirmed by our being the first company to offer a building that is environmentally classified as Outstanding,” says Carola Lavén, Business Area Manager, NCC Property Development. Phase 2 of Torsplan is scheduled for completion in 2016.

NCC BREEAM-certifies all of its proprietary commercial projects since environmental certifications are important to property investors. A sustainability profile that takes into account psychosocial aspects including high-quality lighting, sound and air is valued highly by tenants and their employees who work in the buildings. At NCC, we also offer customers green leases to ensure high environmental performance when the building is occupied.

BREEAM is a globally leading certification system that is considered the most demanding system for the environmental assessment of properties. There are currently about 250,000 BREEAM-certified properties worldwide and, of these, only about 36 have achieved the highest certification, Outstanding. BREEAM is a comprehensive environmental certification system that evaluates environmental performance in ten different categories in terms of about 80 items. In addition to energy consumption, BREEAM also encourages the choice of material, management of waste and quality of indoor environment, as well as low water consumption, preservation of bio-diversity and opportunities to travel by public transport, bicycle or walking.

A large number of environmental issues are being considered in the planning and design of NCC’s second phase of Torsplan. The premises are also being developed in accordance with the “Future Office by NCC” concept, a Nordic concept for the creation of attractive and sustainable workplaces for customers.
