On the 16th, 17th and 18th of October 2010, a four-man team from the Conkers visitor centre in Moira, at the heart of The National Forest, will embark upon the legendary ‘Three Peaks’ challenge in aid of two national charities. Gerry O’Brien, head ranger from Albert Village; Tom Chamberlain, a ranger from Castle Gresley and Tom Astle, catering assistant from Woodville will face the three peaks – ably assisted by their driver, Conker’s general manager, Chris Sturdy. The challenge is to climb the three highest mountains in Scotland, England and Wales – namely Ben Nevis - the tallest at 1,344 metres; Scafell Pike - 978 metres and Snowdon – 1,085 metres. All three mountains will be climbed over the three day period, with each of the three climbers seeking sponsorship to raise money for two charities that are close to the hearts of the visitor attraction. “Wildlife is at the heart of what we do at Conkers – so it was only right that we chose to donate the money that will be raised to the RSPCA and RSPB.” said Gerry O’Brien, head ranger at Conkers. “The journey between the three peaks is over 1,000 miles long, so that’s a challenge in itself. I certainly don’t envy Chris’s job as the team’s driver! “We are still looking for additional sponsors for the challenge, so if anyone can make a donation – however small or large – it will be greatly appreciated by two deserving charities.” Donations can be made by telephoning Conkers on 01283 21 66 33 or by sending a cheque, made payable to ‘Planning Solutions Ltd’, posted to Conkers, Rawdon Road, Moira, nr. Swadlincote, DE12 6GA. For further information please visit http://www.visitconkers.com ENDS **Pictures - The four members of the team are available for group photographs.
