Luton, Bedfordshire, UK – 2nd December 2009 – On Saturday 19th December 2009, Luton Indoor Market will play host to a world record attempt for the most Brussel Sprouts eaten in one minute. Open to anyone over the age of 18, the record attempt is being held to raise money for the Children’s Ward at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital. Dave Gibbs, market manager with Town and Country Markets, explained: “Although we are serious about trying to break the world record for eating sprouts, it be a fun event that can raise much-needed funds for our local Children’s Ward.” “The record currently stands at 43, one-inch diameter, cooked sprouts being consumed using a cocktail stick in one minute – without consuming liquids, so we think we are in with a shot at the title. “Some of the market staff and traders have already started their training for the big event - much to the annoyance of their colleagues.” “I guess you could say that there’s a certain ‘air of anticipation’ within the market!” The record attempts start at 12.00 in the market hall, located inside The Mall and the general public are welcome to take part. Would-be world record holders can register their interest before the event by emailing Dave Gibbs on davegibbs@luton-market.co.uk or simply turn up on the day and fill out an entry form. Gibbs continued: “Although it is free to enter, we are trying to raise money for a good cause, so we would be delighted if contestants and the assembled crowd can make donations, however small.” “I know that the children, their parents and the hospital staff will be very appreciative.” Visit www.TCmarkets.co.uk for further details.
