Peab has been commissioned to build part of Västlänken’s stage Haga-Rosenlund in Gothenburg. The customer is the Swedish Transport Administration and the contract’s estimated worth is SEK 1.5 billion.

Västlänken’s stage Haga is divided into four construction contracts and an installation contract. Peab has received the first construction contract, Rosenlund, which is one of the most challenging civil engineering projects in Sweden. Peab will build one of the underground commuter train stations stretching some 250 meters. On top of that, the construction site is right in the middle of Haga and great care must be taken with the surroundings.

The project is part of the Swedish Transport Administration’s program to increase capacity and accessibility for train traffic in the Gothenburg area. The opening of Västlänken will change train traffic and more trains will need to be stored when not in use. Lärje has been identified as suitable place for a siding primarily due to its proximity to the central railway network, including Västlänken. Peab has now been given the task of building the tracks.

“The fact that we have been commissioned to build stage Haga-Rosenlund is very gratifying and demonstrates that Peab and our organization is capable of competing for projects of this size. Haga-Rosenlund is an important hub in Gothenburg’s mass transit network and the station will contribute to greater accessibility in the area,” says Berth Larsson, Region Manager Peab.

The new underground train station will have three entrances with several platforms, four railway tracks, an intermediate level in the north with room for a bicycle garage and an intermediate level in the south that flows into the School of Business, Economics and Law.

“We’re very familiar with the major projects underway in the Gothenburg area and it’s a big advantage for us to work locally. We’re used to working in the area with its intense traffic and lots of activity and we always take third parties and our surroundings into consideration. We have high quality, safety and environmental standards,” continues Berth Larsson.

The project is a turnkey contract. Construction will begin immediately and the project is expected to be completed in 2029.

The project was order registered in the first quarter 2024.
