Peab builds assisted living in Åmål
Peab has been commissioned to build a new assisted living in Åmål. The customer is Åmål Municipality and the contract is worth SEK 220 million.
The project entails building 50 new apartments for people with special needs. The building will also contain a production kitchen with reserve power and water. The gross area amounts to 5,600 m2 and large parts of the bearing frame will consist of cross-laminated timber (CLT).
“There is a great need for assisted living in the municipality and we’re pleased and proud to finally get started on this fantastic project,” says Björn Wennerström, Head of Community Building and Project Manager for Åmål Municipality.
Åmål Municipality has made several conscious choices to reduce climate impact including using climate-improved concrete in the concrete slab and a CLT bearing frame. The residents all live on the ground floor to make it easier to go outside, and each section has its own courtyard suited to the needs of those living next to it.
“We’re very happy to be entrusted with building this assisted living in Åmål. The project has a significant climate focus and Peab has sustainable solutions that fit in perfectly with the project. We look forward to getting started,” says Nils Staffansson, Region Manager Peab.
Construction is planned to start in March and the project is expected to be ready for occupancy during the first quarter 2026.
The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2024.
