Peab builds new police station in Kiruna
Peab has been commissioned to build Kiruna’s new police station in borough 94 in the new Kiruna City Center. The customer is LKAB and the contract is worth SEK 430 million.
The project comprises construction of premises for The Swedish Police. The customer is LKAB and the landlord is Samhällsbyggnadsbolaget (SBB). Building a new police station is necessary in part due to the relocation of Kiruna City and in part due to bring police operations that are currently located in two different locations in the city under one roof.
The building will be 10,600 m2 with four stories consisting of a basement, a split-level floor and two floors above ground. In addition to office space, the building will contain space for police operations such as a reception, interview rooms, a lock-up, a shooting range and a garage. There will also be an exercise room, a gym, and a large production room for handling incoming and outgoing mail. In addition, the building will contain an internal loading dock.
“We are grateful that we have been entrusted once again with further developing the new Kiruna. This is a very exciting project for us at Peab. Building a police station is a special kind of project since it puts, during both the tender and construction processes, high demands on security and protection but we have a great deal of experience in similar projects,” says Susanne Hallberg, Region Manager Peab.
The project is a turnkey contract in partnering. Construction is planned to start at the end of August 2020 and the police station is expected to be completed in the first quarter 2023.
The project will be order registered in the third quarter 2020.
