Peab builds new prison in Sala
Peab has been commissioned to build 44 new detention cells at the Salberga Institution in Sala for the property owner Skandrenting AB. The renter will be the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and the contract is worth SEK 300 million.
The project consists of building a new remand prison with 44 detention cells as well as renovating and extending affected existing buildings. The construction contract is a general contract in partnering.
The new detention cells will have built-in flexibility regarding the division between remand and common spaces with the possibility of conversion to prison cells if needed. Salberga Institution, which was previously a hospital, is one of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service’s newest institutions and opened in August 2007.

Work on the new remand prison is expected to be completed in the autumn of 2022.
The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2020.
