Peab builds railway sidings in Gothenburg
Peab has been commissioned to build new railway sidings in Lärje, north of Gothenburg, for local and regional trains. The customer is the Swedish Transport Administration and the contract is worth SEK 392 million.
The project is part of the Swedish Transport Administration’s program to increase capacity and accessibility for train traffic in the Gothenburg area. The opening of Västlänken will change train traffic and more trains will need to be stored when not in use. Lärje has been identified as suitable place for a siding primarily due to its proximity to the central railway network, including Västlänken. Peab has now been given the task of building the tracks.
“We’re pleased and proud to be contributing to the development of the railway in the Gothenburg area. This is an exciting and challenging project that requires good collaboration between all the parties involved,” says Berth Larsson, Region Manager Peab.
In total Peab will build 5,000 meters of railway tracks, 18 switches, overhead lines, signal systems and groundwork.
The project is a turnkey contract. Construction will begin in February 2024 and is expected to be completed in the summer of 2027.
The project will be order registered in the first quarter 2024.
