Peab has been commissioned to build a high school and vocational school in Tromsø. The customer is Troms og Finnmark County Municipality and the contract is worth NOK 418 million.

The project comprises building new school buildings and renovating existing ones for a total of 13,640 m2. The construction project also means bringing the high school and vocational school together at Ishavsbyen School. The total number of students will be around 1,000 with 250 staff members.

Environmental demands on the project are strict including clear cut emission level requirements on the newly constructed part as well as on the actual construction site and both solar panels and geothermal wells will be used in the project.

“We’re very pleased to be building a modern and attractive high school and vocational school that are important for the entire region. In doing so we’re really living up to Peab’s goal to be a local community builder. We’ve developed this project over a long time with our customer, users and other partners and now we look forward to getting started,” says Gro Skaar Knutsen, Region Manager Peab.

The project is a turnkey contract and will begin in the autumn of 2021. The school is expected to be completed at the end of 2024.

The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter of 2021.
