Peab builds wastewater treatment plant in Vemdalen
Peab has been commissioned to build a new wastewater treatment plant in Vemdalen. The customer is Vatten och miljö resurs on behalf of Härjedalen Municipality and the contract is worth SEK 252 million.
The new wastewater treatment plant will be dimensioned for 20,000 population equivalents, which is the unit of measurement used to calculate the amount of organic matter in wastewater, and will be built using modern MBBR (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor) technology. The plant is a key element of a major investment in water and sewage infrastructure in Härjedalen Municipality and will contribute to long-term sustainable and secure water supply and sewage treatment in Vemdalen.
"This is an important project where we can use our experience of complex water and wastewater projects and contribute to a robust facility prepared for the future," says Hans Boija, Region Manager Peab.
The new treatment plant will be able to handle large seasonal variations where usage is higher during the summer and winter. The facility places high demands on process technology and flexibility. At the same time construction in the mountains poses challenges linked to land and the environment, climate and weather.
"The investment in Vemdalen is part of a major water and sewage expansion in Härjedalen aimed at meeting higher environmental requirements, protecting the health of residents and strengthening current capacity and preparedness for future expansion," says Christian Ferm, CEO and Project Owner of Vatten och miljö resurs.
The project is a turnkey contract in partnering.
The project will be order registered in business area Civil Engineering in the second quarter 2026.
