Peab commissioned to rebuild E6 after landslide

Report this content

E6 between Gothenburg and Oslo is one of Sweden’s most important traffic and transportation arteries. On the night of September 23 a landslide hit and E6 north of Stenungsundsmotet slid with it and was destroyed. Peab has now been commissioned by the Swedish Transport Administration to rebuild the European route.

The commission entails Peab rebuilding E6 along the same stretch at the northern off ramp to Stenungsund. Restoring the road has highest priority but other work may also need to be done in the landslide area. Before any actual work can begin on site the total stability of the entire area must be investigated and then secured to create a safe work environment.

“This project concerns critical infrastructure for the country and we’re honored to be entrusted with building up E6 again. It has the highest priority and we’re working hard, together with the Swedish Transport Administration and other involved actors, to restore the road and open it up for traffic as soon as possible,” says Ioannis Strantzalis, Deputy Product Manager Peab Civil Engineering.

The project is a traditional contract and construction will begin immediately. Completion date of the restoration and the cost of the project has not yet been established. Therefore the project is not included in Peab’s orders received.
