Peab continues to extend the wastewater treatment plant in Trollhättan

Peab has been commissioned to continue to extend Trollhättan’s wastewater treatment plant. The project includes casting new basins in blasted vaults and installing process equipment that will clean the wastewater. The customer is Trollhättan Energi AB and the contract is worth SEK 355 million.

Trollhättan Energi AB is running the project Bio3 to increase the capacity of the existing wastewater treatment plant and fulfill future requirements for water released into Göta River. Bio3 is an extension that will complement the existing wastewater treatment plant and comprises biological, mechanical and chemical treatment. In previous phases of the project Peab blasted new vaults 40 meters underground. In the spring of 2023 Peab is initiating the next phase by casting basins in the blasted vaults and installing the process equipment that will clean the wastewater from, among other things, nitrogen and phosphor.

“We look forward to continuing to work on the extension of Trollhättan’s wastewater treatment plant together with Trollhättan Energi AB. This is a technically challenging project with underground chambers and basins deep below the ground, which requires a great deal of consideration and technical expertise. Working together with engaged partners to create conditions for Trollhättan to grow feels important and instills pride,” says Berth Larsson, Region Manager Peab.

“This project is absolutely vital and is a prioritized investment to provide future wastewater treatment needs as Trollhättan grows. The extension of the wastewater treatment plant and our processes is one of the strategically crucial investment areas in the so-called Water Package that also entails securing safe drinking water and updating the wastewater and water grids,” says Synnöve Holm, Head of Water at Trollhättan Energi.

The project is a turnkey contract in strategic partnership and the new section of the wastewater treatment plant should be ready to use in 2025.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2023.
