Peab expands E20 between Götene and Mariestad
Peab has been commissioned to expand E20 at Mariestad and put in a central barrier. The customer is the Swedish Transport Administration and the contract is worth SEK 848 million.
The project involves rebuilding E20 from the current motorway section at Götene to west of the Haggården interchange at Mariestad. The new 20 kilometer stretch will be a 2+2 lane road with a central barrier and an overpass at of the Lugnås interchange. Bearing capacity is low in places in the existing road and it is not fully dimensioned for heavy vehicles. There have also been problems with frost heaving, which has led to cracks in the road.
"We’re proud that the Swedish Transport Administration has once again put their trust in Peab and pleased to be involved in creating a safer and more passable road. This is the fourth stage of the E20 expansion Peab is in charge of and with our specialist expertise in infrastructure projects we look forward to continued collaboration with everyone involved," says Berth Larsson, Region Manager Peab.
"We’ve been planning this project for years and the new road is eagerly awaited. It's great that we can now start building it together with Peab," says Marita Karlsson, Project Manager at the Swedish Transport Administration.
In addition to rebuilding this stretch of the road, the project also includes building thirteen concrete bridges and a tubular bridge. When completed, the road will be signposted as a clearway and have a speed limit of 100 kilometers per hour. The existing E20 will be narrowed and retained as a local road.
The project is a turnkey contract that will start in the summer of 2024 and is expected to be handed over in 2028.
The project will be order registered in the second quarter of 2024.
