Peab moves cultural buildings in Kiruna
Peab has been commissioned to relocate a number of cultural buildings in Kiruna. The customer is LKAB and the contract is worth SEK 105 million.
Peab has begun the work to move cultural buildings from the old Kiruna city center to the new city districts now emerging. This work will continue there by, among other things, providing the buildings with basements and new electricity, ventilation and heating.
"It's an honor that Peab has been commissioned to help preserve several cultural buildings in Kiruna. Moving old houses that weigh up to 500 tons is a real challenge and our expertise will be very useful," says Hans Boija, Region Manager Peab.
The buildings will be transported with great care and sustainable choices, including using renewable fuels for transportation.
"Moving our historic buildings to Kiruna's new city center is vital to preserving our cultural history. Doing it safely is a must, and in collaboration with Peab we have moved three of Kiruna's most famous buildings - Pekinghuset, Landstöms and The Salvation Army's old home. These will now be installed on site and live on," says Linus Niva, Head of the Community Development Department.
Husflyttarna sker i etapper, varav detta är den första. Fler kulturbyggnader ska flyttas och renoveras under de kommande åren.
The relocation of the buildings will take place in stages, of which this is the first. More cultural buildings will be moved and renovated in the coming years.
The project is a turnkey contract. The work started in December 2024 and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2024.
