Peab has been commissioned to relocate four more cultural buildings in Kiruna. The customer is LKAB and the contract is worth SEK 139 million.

A foreman's residence and three other houses will be moved from the old Kiruna center to new city blocks. The four houses will be moved during the summer so as to use the light from the midnight sun to minimize the impact on traffic.

"Peab began working last year to move cultural buildings from the old Kiruna city center to emerging new city blocks. It's exciting to be a part of – and to see – the new Kiruna develop," says Hans Boija, Region Manager Peab.

In addition to moving the houses the work includes restorations, tree-felling, preparatory groundwork, water and sewage, district heating, roads and public power and lighting as well as garages, playgrounds, barbecue areas, noise barriers and greenery. The buildings will then be renovated and adapted for activities.

The project is a turnkey contract in partnering. Work will start in May and is expected to be completed during the autumn/winter of 2026.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2025.
