Peab has been commissioned to continue to prepare for the blasting work necessary to make room for a 140 meter long basin hall where waste water is treated through a biological process in Trollhättan. The customer is Trollhättan Energi and the contract is worth SEK 125 million.

Trollhättan Energi runs the project Trollhättan's future waste water treatment. Waste water will be treated in three steps and go through mechanical, chemical and biological treatment in a large cavern before it runs out into Göta River again. Starting in the Summer of 2022 Peab will blast away an area of 2,300 m2, corresponding to 29,000 m2 rock, in Arvidstorp outside of Trollhättan to enable the third nitrogen treatment step in the underground part of the waste water treatment plant.

”Trollhättan is a growing city and this work is necessary for treating inhabitants’ waste water and meeting governmental requirements. Now we’re going to expand the underground plant with halls and basins for the new treatment step, 40 meters under the ground,” says Berth Larsson, Region Manager Peab.

Blasting will be underground but people living close by may be able to feel vibrations from the blasts and therefore vibration measuring instruments will be put in place.

”The time plan is really tight as the plant’s new environmental permit requires everything to be ready by the summer of 2025 but we’re doing it for the sake of the environment. Now we’ll be able to minimize nitrogen and phosphor emissions. That feels really good,” says Peter Albertson, Head of the Waste Water Division at Trollhättan Energi.

The first blast salvo will take place inside the mountain in the beginning of the summer and the blasting is expected to be completed by June 2023. The project is a turnkey contract in strategic partnering. The new part of the waste water treatment plant should be up and running in 2025.

The project will be order registered in the second quarter 2022.
