Peab has been commissioned to rebuild Highway 27 and build a new stretch of the road between Backaryd and Hallabro. The customer is the Swedish Transport Administration and the contract is worth SEK 354 million.

The existing road between Backaryd and Hallabro will be rebuilt. A new stretch of the road that passes Backaryd will be built east of the town to improve traffic safety and the situation for nearby residents. Highway 27 is an important connection from Karlskrona to Växjö and further on to Borås and Gothenburg.

The entire section of road is about seven kilometers and will have a center guardrail which will increase traffic safety considerably, reduce the number of accidents and improve passability.

“Naturally we’re really pleased to contribute to improving traffic safety and passability with the new road. One of the challenges in the project is that the road goes through an area where the terrain requires extensive blasting,” says Göran Wiking, Region Manager Peab.

The project is a turnkey contract and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2025.

The project was order registered in the fourth quarter 2022.
