Peab rebuilds Kungsgatan in Stockholm
Peab has been commissioned to rebuild Kungsgatan in Stockholm. The customer is the city of Stockholm and the contract is worth SEK 136 million.
Kungsgatan was inaugurated in 1911 and is one of Stockholm’s most historic streets. Slightly more than one hundred years later it’s time to fortify the ground under the street and renovate it between Sveavägen and Norrlandsgatan so that it can handle future traffic. Measures will also be taken to make it more enjoyable, accessible and worth visiting.
“We’re very pleased to be entrusted with continuing to improve downtown Stockholm. Kungsgatan is a challenging project, especially since we need to keep traffic flowing and businesses running during construction. There are a lot of similarities between upgrading Kungsgatan and Vasagatan, which we completed this summer together with the traffic department,” says Carl Johan Söderberg, Region Manager Peab.
The project is divided into different stages of construction in order to keep the street open to everyone and minimize disturbing passersby and street life. In addition, some stages will be built consecutively in order to streamline construction time.
The project is a traditional contract. Construction will begin in the spring of 2023 and is expected to be completed by the summer of 2025.
The project will be order registered in the fourth quarter 2022.
