PostNord’s climate targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative

As a leading provider of parcel and logistics services, PostNord has a key role in the Nordic business community and society. Our ambition is to be at the forefront of sustainable logistics. One of our commitments is to achieve fossil-free transport by 2030. The fact that our plan to reduce our overall climate footprint has now been endorsed by the Science Based Targets initiative is proof that we are contributing to the required climate transition.

To solve the climate crisis, the entire transport sector needs to undergo a huge transformation. With our Green by PostNord initiative, PostNord wants to take the lead in this regard and show that it is possible to switch to fossil-free transport by 2030. This ambition covers the more than 13,000 vehicles that we and our partners drive on the Nordic roads, and by 2027 all PostNord’s last-mile transports shall be emission-free throughout the Nordic region.

Green by PostNord has been established to accelerate the transition in partnership with market participants both inside and outside the transport sector. We want to encourage the energy sector to switch to renewable energy production as quickly as possible and help speed up the development of electric vehicles, the implementation of charging infrastructure and an increased availability of biofuels. One factor required for success is that we and other market participants must dare to test new technological innovations and forms of cooperation.

“With our unique and strong position in the Nordic region, we look forward to working together with customers, suppliers and other partners in a joint effort to accelerate the transition to greener logistics. Perhaps we can even achieve our goals ahead of schedule, by working together to create an ecosystem of future technology solutions,” says Annemarie Gardshol, Group CEO and President PostNord.

PostNord’s climate transition plan and targets have been evaluated and approved by the Science Based Targets initiative. By focusing on emissions reductions* in areas where we have both the greatest impact and the greatest opportunity to exert an influence i.e. our own and purchased road transport, we ensure that PostNord’s emissions reductions are in line with the requirements of the Paris Agreement.

“I am very pleased that we have a clear and funded plan to achieve our ambitious climate goals. The fact that our plan has also been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative makes me particularly proud to lead a Group that is working to keep the global temperature increase below 1.5 degrees, in line with the Paris Agreement,” says Annemarie Gardshol.

Facts about the Science Based Targets initiative:

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a collaboration between the United Nations Global Compact, CDP, World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature. The SBTi defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.
